The girls and I made a short trip to Downer’s Grove tonight to see Miriam Busch and Larry Day present their book, Lion, Lion. Miriam was assigned as my buddy during my first semester at Hamline, so it was really cool to catch up with her again (though I did see her over the summer in St. Paul.) When Callie saw the book trailer (see below,) she said, “I want to read that book now.” So, the trailer worked.

Miriam and Larry read the book, which was such fun. We bought a couple of copies and got them signed. One copy will be a Christmas gift for my nephews, but Fiona doesn’t think she can keep the surprise for that long.  My girls love getting author-signed books, which is a perk of being in the MFA program – they think it’s amazing that I get to actually meet the writers of these wonderful books (I think it’s cool, too.)

Fiona is bringing her copy to school tomorrow, since it’s library day. She’s going to try to convince the librarian to buy copies for the school library. I bet when Miriam joined the MFA program she never imagined she’d get some connections like that.

Anyway, enjoy the trailer. Go to a bookstore and buy the book. It’s good.

  1. Thank you so very much for coming out tonight, Josh! Great to see you and meet your girls — and you’re right: never dreamt I’d make these kinds of connections. Looking forward to hearing how your semester progresses!

  2. I’ll bring your book to my library. I’m guessing the elementary school won’t want it, but the middle school kids will love it.
