Fiona woke up this morning and immediately carried two Knuffle Bunny books into our room. She hopped into our bed and read them aloud to us. She mentioned that she really liked how Mo Willems drew cartoons on top of real photographs of his neighborhood. Then she decided that she wanted to do the same thing (love that kid.)

So we went to the computer, and she made me find an image of a castle. Unlike Willems, however, she wanted her setting to be in color. She grabbed a piece of drawing paper and set to work. Then we scanned it, and superimposed it on the castle picture. She was very satisfied, and we even printed it out, though it looks like we’re running out of ink. Now she wants to create a whole book in the style of Knuffle Bunny. She’s six years old. Did I mention that I love this child dearly?

At any rate, here’s the picture:

You can tell that perhaps a bit of work needs to be done with perspective, as the people waiting in line appear to be standing on each other’s shoulders like a bunch of acrobats. I showed Fiona an alternative where the castle was in black and white, like the Knuffle Bunny books, but she insisted on color. She’s not completely derivative, I guess.

By the way, those Knuffle Bunny books are just fantastic. And if you’re in need of a good cry, might I recommend the third installment, Knuffle Bunny Free?
